A new gaming studio, Blue Scarab Entertainment, has been founded from gaming industry veterans who previously worked on Helldivers 2, Star Stable Online, World of Warcraft, Battlefield, Age of Conan and other famous franchises. The headquarters is located in Stockholm, but employees can choose to work remotely. The company has received more than seven million dollars in investment from several investors, including NetEase Inc. and Behold Ventures.
“Thanks to the of NetEase Games, we have the opportunity to bring our vision to life. We are grateful to them for the creative freedom, and resources we bring to this adventure,” Colin Cragg, CEO of Blue Scarab Entertainment.
The first project will be a story-driven MMORPG with a unique combination of cozy escapism and true crime. Players will be able to saddle up and freely explore the open world, and the main plot will be dedicated to crime investigation. Unreal Engine 5 was chosen as the game engine. More than twenty developers are currently working on the game.
“As the gaming industry has expanded, we have gained a new audience of players. We believe there is room to merge and evolve previous gaming and media experiences into something new and fresh for this community. Innovation through iteration can be very powerful. Our goal is to use all the experience our team has accumulated to create new experiences for a wider audience than ever before. We want to try to challenge the expectations of the genre while still leveraging all the skills and experience of the team we’ve assembled.” – Craig Morrison, Studio Director, Blue Scarab Entertainment.
