After the reboot of the project and a series of layoffs at Riot Games in 2024, many s waiting for an MMORPG in the League of Legends universe could begin to worry about the fate of the ambitious project. However, recently news appeared confirming that work on it continues.
According to data from job pages Riot Games, the company has opened two new positions related to the development of MMORPG based on League of Legends. They are looking for a lead UX designer and a full-time software engineer to work with Unreal tools. Candidates must have significant experience in the gaming industry, and the UX Designer will be expected to develop innovative player-centric experiences and be familiar with the world of Runeterra.
Earlier in March 2024, the head of Riot Games, Mark Merrill, said that the project needed a complete reboot. The reason for this was the desire to bring significant evolution to the genre instead of releasing a game similar to other MMORPGs.
Let us that back in 2023, Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street left the company and began developing his own project – an MMORPG called Ghost. Despite difficult times and two waves of layoffs affecting a total of 562 Riot employees, the search for new talent for the League of Legends MMORPG indicates that the project is still moving forward. However, due to the relaunch of the project, it remains unclear whether Greg’s original ideas will remain in the game.
