Insider Tom Henderson reported that the release of new games in the Far Cry franchise has been postponed to 2026. It’s about the plot Project Blackbird (Far Cry 7) and extraction shooter Project Maverick. The transfer is connected “due to difficulties in development,” since both projects will have similar gameplay elements: a movement system, including sliding and jumping, inventory and picking up equipment from defeated enemies.
As for the features of the new games, they will offer a new experience not previously seen in the Far Cry series:
- Project Maverick is an extraction shooter in which players have to survive in the Alaskan wilderness. The danger will come from wild animals, harsh climate and other players.
- Project Blackbird (also known as Far Cry 7) is a story-driven single-player game where you have to find and save your family in 72 in-game hours (24 real-life hours). The timer, located on the wrist of the main character, will count down the time constantly and regardless of your actions. The main villain is listed as a certain “conspirator who conducted hallucinogenic experiments on animals and children.”
While the developers at Ubisoft Montreal and its ing studios are very optimistic about the quality of Project Blackbird, there are concerns associated with working at Ubisoft. Amid the cancellation of shooter XDefiant and a wave of layoffs, employees have a feeling that this may affect other internal studios.
